Meadow Mural
Some days have a strange way of turning around.
A few weeks ago, I was having one of those afternoons where everything and everyone seemed to be letting me down. I was frustrated, tired, and honestly not in the mood for anything new when I got a phone call from Lynn from Ballycanew Tidy Towns asking if I’d be interested in painting a mural.
My first instinct was to say no.
I kept finding excuses not to do it, and Lynn continued solving all these problems before they even appeared until I eventually agreed to meet her and look at the wall.
When I met Lynn, I actually had to apologise for being so negative on the phone. It had simply caught me on a bad day. The wall was in such a lovely spot that I thought – why not just give it a go?
The only direction Lynn gave me was that she’d love something with flowers and a biodiversity theme, so I decided to paint a wild meadow filled with movement and colour.
It ended up becoming probably one of my favourite murals I’ve done.
It all went smoothly – well, mostly smoothly, if you don’t count falling off the ladder on the first day and spending the following days completely battered and bruised, while continuing to paint of course! But despite that, it was such a wonderful experience from start to finish, and I’m really glad I said yes to it.
Sometimes the things we resist the most end up being exactly what we needed.
Here’s a few photos from the process and the finished mural.

The mural in Ballycanew is absolutely beautiful, I see it every morning on the way to work and it’s fab, fox gloves are one of my all time favourite flowers. It’s lovely to hear your story about the painting.
Thanks Caroline, glad the mural resonates with you ☺️
