Just a few years back, the notion of painting wate

Just a few years back, the notion of painting watercolours without first sketching the composition seemed unimaginable. It is a common practice among watercolourists, myself included, to map out the scene with a 2B pencil before any paint touched the paper. However, a shift occurred a couple of years ago when I arrived at Poulshone beach and realized I had left my pencil behind. Undeterred, I set up and gave it a go without the preliminary sketch. I loved the process!

Since then, I've embraced the challenge of working pencil-less, finding joy in building washes and layers that respond to the emerging image on the paper. It's a thrilling process that led to the creation of this piece. I'm excited to share it and hope you like it!
