Portraits For HSE Heroes

#portraitsforHSEheroes is an initiative started on April 22nd by artist Bernadette Doolan who adapted the idea from an NHS version. It helps artists show appreciation for HSE front line workers. Participating artists would share on social media that they are willing to paint a free portrait for the first HSE front line worker to contact them or to be nominated.
The response from artists was an overwhelming yes. Many went further again and offered two or more portraits across several social media.

I am one of participating artists! I have painted 2 portraits so far, one of them was a portrait of Leanne an ICU nurse working in Wexford General Hospital. Leanne was nominated by her friend – Kate O’Donnell. Such was and is the success of the scheme that RTE ran a feature on mine and Leanne’s story on “Ireland on Call” shown on RTE One last Thursday. A reason it resonates with so many is it shows the faces behind the masks and humanises our front line staff.

Here is my portrait of Leanne and a short film.
