Painting Poppies

Painting lipstick red poppies is definitely one of my guilty pleasures. I think I have painted hundreds of them by now. And still love it. Somehow I cannot resist joyful display of color. It couldn’t be more intensive and saturated. And in addition to that they have this thin long stems that makes the flowers look like floating balloons.

Prom Night

I have finished this watercolor painting above last night and named it ‘Prom Night’. The reason: flowers look like they are fighting for attention and it made me think about prom when girls are all dress up lovely and with red dresses and lipstick wanting to wow. But sometimes poppies look very delicate, and other time I paint strong contrast so they can stand out even more. Below selection of poppy paintings that I made during my nearly 10 year old adventure with watercolor! Enjoy Kate
